 Abstract:  Joseph W. Gaskill (b. 1843) was a corporal in Company B, 104th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. The collection consists of a descriptive roll of Company B, 104th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry (1862-65), a history of the Company by Gaskill, and Gaskill's diary for 1864, during which time he saw action in Tennessee and Georgia. Includes an unpublished, incomplete manuscript of a book about Abraham Lincoln, written by Gaskill.

 Abstract:  William W. Richardson (b. 1827 or 1828) was a musician in Company I, 104th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, during the American Civil War. The collection consists of diaries kept by Richardson while serving in the 104th Ohio Infantry during the Civil War. The diaries reflect the regiment's battle activities, as well as Richardson's duties, which included burying the dead, building fortifications, barbering and drawing maps.

5Title:  George E. Dunbar Diary

 Abstract:  George E. Dunbar, a farm laborer from Newburgh, Ohio, enlisted in Company B, Second Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, at Camp Wade in Cleveland, Ohio, in August 1861. Trained at Camp Dennison, Ohio, his company left for Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in January 1862, Dunbar having been appointed sergeant and later quartermaster sergeant. While the regiment was defending the Kansas and Missouri borders during the Civil War, Dunbar became ill and was discharged on October 2, 1862, returning after a lengthy journey home via wagon and train to Newburgh. The collection consists of a single volume containing a chronicle of Dunbar's service in Company B, Second Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, from January to October 1862, and an anonymous entry, dated February 29, 1864, concerning a business trip to Cleveland.

 Abstract:  James Barnett (1821-1911) was an Army officer, of Cleveland, Ohio, who was active in various nineteenth century philanthropic and charitable endeavors. The collection consists of correspondence, history, notes, and other papers, relating to Barnett's service with the 1st Ohio Light Artillery in Tennessee during the Civil War; diaries (1862-1865) of Philander B. Gardner, of Berea, Ohio, Addison F. Stockham, of Hambden Ohio, and Newton D. Strong, of Strongsville, Ohio, members of Barnett's regiment; correspondence relating to the Dept. of Ohio, Grand Army of the Republic; correspondence and other papers (1878-1899) relating to the Bethel Associated Charities, particularly Bethel Union Relief Dept.; and correspondence, statements, and annual reports (1890-1895) of the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railway Company.

 Abstract:  Charles H. Anderton (b. 1844) of Bedford, Ohio, was soldier in Company D, the 1st Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. He was wounded and captured on May 27, 1864 near Altoona, Georgia. His whereabouts were reported as unknown at the end of the war. He participated in the battles of Tullahoma, Chattanooga, and Chickamauga, and, later, served with Sherman in Georgia. The collection consists of a Civil War diary, communication from the War Department to Anderton's father, receipt for money wired home, and a scrap claimed to be from Anderton's brigade flag.
